Wilks, a battle-hardened space marine, is picked for the job.

A decision is made to send a Colonial Marine expedition to the origin planet of the derelict ship, presumably the home planet of the alien species. However, everything was captured by the cleanup ship's black box.Ī CIA-like organization, called the TIA, realizes the threat posed by the alien species, and is able to use the information in the black box to retrace the route of the derelict ship. The ship is destroyed when one of the crewmembers panics and collides the cleanup ship with the derelict. The crew doing the cleanup investigate the ship, and, much to their horror, an alien xenomorph stowaway on the derelict manages to board the cleanup crew's ship, and kill them. The book begins with a routine space junk cleanup mission in Earth orbit, with a small derelict spaceship being prepped for de-orbit and burnup. This book introduces two main characters, a Colonial Marine named Wilks, and a young woman named Billie, both survivors of a previous alien attack on the colony world of Rim. Young love is tested, and the answer to what it means to be human is more important now than ever before.įilled with suspense, great characters, and just downright fun! Alien: Earth Hive is great science fiction! I look forward to the next in the series, also by Perry, Aliens: Nightmare Asylum. It is the first book in a trilogy of novels written by Perry, and deals with events on Earth and in other locations in space set a number of years after the movies Aliens and Alien 3. Added to the duo is a young Colonial Marine turned mercenary named Bueller, whose secrets will change Billie forever. Both are thrown into a desperate mission to recover an alien specimen, so that the American government can compete with Weyland-Yutani as the race to turn the alien species into the ultimate weapon escalates into something cataclysmic. Wilks and Billie reunite years after Wilks saves her life on LV426. So, the series does “technically” proceed Aliens. As mentioned, don’t compare them to the movies! But for the sake of those who may find an old copy and read this book, do know that Ellen Ripley is replaced by Colonial Marine Wilks, and Newt (from Aliens) is replaced by Billie (still a girl). And heck! They are fun readings! Although, there are some obvious name changing and story line tampering that deviates from the movies, which drives some readers crazy. If you think of the series independently, it makes them a lot more enjoyable. The story is unique from the movies, so I won’t compare any in this series to the films. Although, I was familiar with the comics.Īliens: Earth Hive is the first exciting, action-packed thriller in the series.

In 1992, Steve Perry wrote the first novels based on the Dark Horse comics Aliens.
