I won’t say that I always think the characters do the right/smart thing, but they are very human in the mistakes that they make. I finished it in one day and never got tired of the narration or the story itself. The story itself is very interesting especially once you begin to realize what point in time this whole story takes place. However I do think people with certain triggers should be aware going into this book that you’re going to run into a lot of uncomfortable sexual situations. The situations give rise to a lot of character development, and help to explain a lot of character motivation as you learn more about each character.
I did not feel like it was done without a reason. They are made to make the characters and listeners feel powerless and gross. I would say a good 90% of these scenes are there to prove how awful the people in power are. There is a difference between a “sex senes” that are intended to be sexy, and senes that happens to include sex/ sexual acts. However I do think that a lot of people are missing the fact that that’s the point. And yes there is a lot of senes with sex that are incredibly uncomfortable. I have seen a lot of reviews talking about the sex. Worth the credit but know what you’re getting into
